Welcome to Grid Mapper
Grid Mapper is for anyone trying to get around town without relying on a car. Plan bike rides, walking routes, or transit trips that prioritize safety and exploration over just getting there fast. Create detailed routes with a focus on finding the fun stuff and avoiding the dangerous roads.
Who made this?
Just me, Jay. I built this whole thing in my free time because I wanted my friends to have a better way to get around the city safely and maybe stumble onto some adventures along the way.
What started as a simple routing tool snowballed into something more: a way to share cool spots, warn each other about rough intersections, and maybe help people connect over the routes and places they love. It's been my nights-and-weekends passion project for the past year, and it's eaten up way more evenings and weekends than I'd care to admit.
What's next?
There's a lot I want to add if I can keep this running:
- Native iOS and Android apps
- Custom routing profiles
- Better social features for finding riding buddies
- Whatever else makes sense based on how people use it
Hosting, API calls, and databases all cost money. I'm covering everything out of pocket to keep Grid Mapper running. If you find this useful and can chip in, it'd help a lot.

Once your route calculates, you can:
- Review Directions: See turn-by-turn instructions in the 'Directions' tab.
- Adjust Settings: Change between bike and walk modes, or prioritize distance, safety, or fun.
- Add Transit: Tap rail station icons () to include train segments.
- Discover Nearby: Browse points of interest along your route in the 'POIs' tab.
Just want to look around or create a stylish map?

About your data
All we store is what you share with us: your name, email, and password (encrypted). That's it. We keep it in our own database and we'll never share it with anyone.
We use Plausible for basic analytics like page views. It's privacy-friendly, doesn't use cookies, and doesn't track you across sites.
No selling data, no creepy tracking, no weird stuff. Just what's needed to let you save routes and pins and understand how people use the site.
Grid Mapper is built and maintained by one person who just thinks riding bikes through cities is fun. If it's helped you explore your city or find better routes, here's how you can help keep it alive:
Why donate?
Keep the servers running
Hosting, API calls, databases. It all costs money. Right now I'm covering everything out of pocket while between jobs. Your contribution helps keep Grid Mapper running.
Fund future features
Native mobile apps, custom routing profiles, better ways to connect with other riders. There's a long list of things I want to build.
Get grandfathered into premium features
Some things that are free now (like POI discovery along routes) might need to be limited if usage grows. Early supporters wili continue to have use of those features even if they end up part of a paid plan.
Support independent development
This isn't VC-backed and there's no board demanding growth metrics. Just someone building something useful because cities should be fun to explore.
This project has taken up an absurd amount of time and energy. If Grid Mapper has made getting around more fun, helped you discover new places, or just saved you from some sketchy intersections, consider helping me keep it going.
Every bit helps, whether it's $5 or $50. And if you can't donate, sharing Grid Mapper with friends who might find it useful means a lot too.
Thank You for Your Donation!
I really can't thank you enough. I promise I'll write something more thoughtful here at some point.

Route Segment Too Long
The route segment you're trying to create is over 100 miles long.
Grid Mapper is primarily designed for urban routing at the moment, and we're working to enable longer routes in the future.
Try breaking your route into shorter segments by adding waypoints, or consider a shorter distance for now.
